Mia Goth has shared some interesting details about her auditioning process for Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey. Goth will play Melantho, the handmaid of Odysseus (Matt Damon) and the wife of Penelope (Anne Hathaway). Empire recently confirmed several mythical roles that cast members are going to portray, including: Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya as Athena, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Charlize Theron as Circe, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Himesh Patel and Will Yun Lee as Odysseus’ shipmates.

Goth opened up about the nerve-racking and apparently very secretive auditioning in the most recent interview of Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused. Goth revealed she had to audition for the role and how anxious it made her, stating,

I auditioned for The Odyssey…They gave me dummy slides, so it had nothing to do with the script…I  remember driving over to Universal and being so nervous that I wanted to throw up.

The secretive process didn’t stop there, it seems, as when Goth was offered the role, she didn’t even know what character she would be portraying, commenting:

And then I got the job, and then I found out that I had to accept the job before I could even read the script and find out what the role was. So that was a new process.

The Odyssey is already one of the most anticipated films of 2026 and is Nolan’s first film shot on IMAX’s 70 mm film cameras. It is slated to release on July 17th, 2026.

Mallery McKay: I am a graduate student, focusing on writing for and about films. I have a passion for films and the news surrounding them, so I always try and keep up to date with the latest news.
