With the fervor currently surrounding biblical movies, the film Methuselah has finally gotten a writer. First broken by Variety, Zach Dean has been chosen to pen the screenplay for the movie about the longest-lived man in the Bible.In the Bible, Methuselah was Noah’s grandfather and lived to be 969 years old. The film’s tagline, rather than focusing on any theological content, instead portrays the movie as being more about Methuselah’s survival skills than any divine presence among his family. With movies out and upcoming like Noah and Exodus: Gods and Kings (the trailer of which you can view here), it’s no wonder Warner Bros. is ready to move this movie’s production forward, as it’s technically been in development since 2009.
Categorized as action/adventure, Methuselah seems to be all about living at the dawn of civilization instead of focusing on the possibility of divinity. In the Bible, Methuselah wasn’t chosen for any divine purpose like his grandson Noah or even his father Enoch. He is simply the man who lived the longest, and that long life was certainly filled with dangers that must have developed his survival skills. Though Zach Dean is a relative newcomer to screenwriting, with backing from Heyday Films and Warner Bros., this movie could be his first hit.
