For a record shattering start to 2025, Memorial Day Weekend kicks off with dual blockbuster premieres for Disney’s live action Lilo And Stitch remake and Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. Lilo And Stitch saw $180 million making it the current highest opening for a Memorial Day premiere beating 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick $160.5 million. Against a budget of $100 million Lilo And Stich is already on its way to being one of the best performing of Disney’s current remakes with a current international total of $341.7 million. Final Reckoning brought in $77 million domestically and $190 million internationally against a reported $300 to 400 million budget leaving it a much higher hill to climb back to the black.
The rest of the top five are made up of Final Destination Bloodlines in third still carrying a franchise high with a $204 gross. Marvel’s Thunderbolts hangs on in fourth with $171 million domestically and $353 million for a total international release and the undead sleeper hit Sinners in fifth with $339 million for its international gross including the $259 million domestically. With Monday being part of holiday then a typical box office weekend there’s still a chance these films see more profit. Of these box office giants Minecraft takes a bow after a 2 month reign and $940 million for a total international gross falling short of the coveted $1 billion club, with a streaming premiere around the corner though the film could still crawl to that goal on the run back.
