Melissa Barrera-Led Horror Comedy ‘Your Monster’ Becomes Streaming Hit On Max, Reaching Number Four Spot

Despite Melissa Barrera’s misfortunes involving Spyglass Media and the Scream franchise in 2023, the actress’s luck seems to have improved recently, with her latest film, Your Monster, becoming a success on streaming, Collider reports.

Beginning her career in films like Lin Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights and All The World Is Sleeping, Barrera’s breakthrough came when she was cast in the role of Sam Carpenter in the slasher horror Scream franchise, with the fifth and sixth entries becoming massive hits. But this success was ultimately short-lived, as she would be fired from the upcoming seventh film for Pro-Palestine comments about the Israel-Hamas War on her Instagram, leaving her to say she “felt like her life was over”.

Now, however, Barrera’s career seems to be on the rise once again, as her indie-horror romantic comedy, Your Monster, has climbed to the number four spot on Max’s Top Ten Streaming Chart. With a 78% Critical Score and an 85% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film follows an aspiring Broadway actress who is devastated when her playwright boyfriend dumps her while she is going through treatment for cancer. But when she meets and befriends the monster living in her childhood closet, her life starts to change for the better.

Barrera’s upcoming projects include co-starring in an espionage series with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu on Peacock.

Your Monster is currently streaming on Max.
