The original Daddy’s Home pits Mark Wahlberg’s Dusty Mayron against Will Ferrell’s Brad Whitaker. Whitaker struggles to win the affection of his step-children when the ultra-cool biological dad (Mayron) returns home. Directed by Sean Anders, Daddy’s Home raked in over $150 million at the box office, so a sequel was inevitable.
The latest trailer for Daddy’s Home 2 (directed again by Anders) features more slapstick hijinks from the consistently all-in Ferrell and a hilariously standoffish Wahlberg. This time around, Whalberg and Ferrell have learned to accept one another, but a mutual dilemma drives a wedge in their relationship: their fathers are visiting for the holidays, and they could not be more opposite (think Meet the Fockers). Mel Gibson portrays Kurt Mayron, a stoic tough guy, while John Lithgow plays Brad’s sensitive, doting father. The ideal casting of Gibson and Lithgow ensures that their chemistry will be explosive.
Linda Cardellini (Bloodline, Mad Men) and professional wrestler John Cena co-star.
Distributed by Paramount Pictures, Daddy’s Home 2 is set for release on November 10.
