Mark Waters has signed on to direct the upcoming teen comedy #Catfight for Screen Gems and Olive Bridge Entertainment. Waters is best known for directing the 2004 hit teen comedy Mean Girls, which was written by Tina Fey (TV’s 30 Rock), and starred Lindsay Lohan (The Canyons) and Rachel McAdams (Wedding Crashers). However, more recently he has directed The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008), Mr. Popper’s Penguins (2011), and Vampire Academy (2014).
According to Deadline, this comedy has some plot similarities with Mean Girls. The protagonist is Lucy, an apprehensive teenage girl who earns a scholarship to an elite private high school for her senior year. In an attempt to fit in with her new environment, she reinvents herself and covers up the past that she wants to put behind her. On the day she is being interviewed by a recruiter from her dream college, Lucy learns that her boyfriend’s psychotic ex-girlfriend has just been released from a juvenile detention facility, and challenges her to a fight after school. Lucy tries to balance taking care of her college prep and preparing for this showdown.
Although there is no word on the cast as yet, Will Gluck (director of The Help, Friends with Benefits) will be producing through his Olive Bridge Entertainment production banner.
