Hayley Atwell, best known for her role as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has found her way into another high-powered box office franchise: the Mission Impossible series. Christopher McQuarrie, who has directed the ongoing series since Rogue Nation, brought much needed resurgence to the Tom Cruise-lead espionage flick.
Signed on for two more films, Paramount is looking to start production at the end of the year with release dates scheduled for 2021 and 2022. It didn’t take long, though, for McQuarrie to announce his newest acquisition through his Instagram post yesterday, asking Atwell if she would join his crew….
…with Atwell soon responding with her own post, accepting a new mission.
While details for the story are still unknown, the casting is exciting nonetheless. As her photo lies atop the IMF folder, this leads to a strong indication she might join as help for Ethan Hunt and the crew, possibly for Mission Impossible 8 as well since it’s being filmed back to back. It won’t be a smooth transition though, as Atwell stated in her caption: “Though I’m not the sort to follow orders…”
There might be some hurdles for Atwell’s character as she tries to settle in with her new team under Hunt. One thing is for certain: female cast members have made their footprint within the franchise, be it Vanessa Kirby’s White Widow in Fallout or Ilsa Faust in Rogue Nation onward. Atwell should have no problem making an impact, adding another fan favorite to the star studded cast.
Mission Impossible 7 will release July 23rd, 2021, with Mission Impossible 8 soon following the next year on August 5th, 2022.
