McAvoy To Play Dr. Frankenstein

It is to be a youthful cast for the as-yet-untitled Frankenstein movie from Chronicle scribe Max Landis, director Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin), and 20th Century Fox. Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was already in place as Igor, and now the film has its famous doctor in James McAvoy.

McAvoy is quietly becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought-after talents. While he might not be known yet to the average moviegoer, he’s put together an impressive resume roles films like Atonement, Wanted, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Last King of Scotland, and X-Men: First Class. He’s currently filming the X-Men follow-up Days of Future Past, and has leading roles in both Filth (see the red band trailer below) and The Disappearance of Elanor Rigby, the latter of which co-stars Jessica Chastain.

The film would seem to be one in a rash of Frankenstein movies in development. There’s no news on the plot of the McAvoy/Radcliffe/McGuigan film, and it will be interesting to see how closely it sticks to the source material of Mary Shelley’s classic novel. World War II horror film Frankenstein’s Army and supernatural actioner I, Frankenstein both make extreme use of creative license. Guillermo del Toro and writer Dean Koontz also have separate Frankenstein projects in the early stages of development.
