The odds are ever in her favor. Maya Hawke has been tapped to star in the upcoming addition to the Hunger Games franchise, Sunrise On The Reaping.
Following in the footsteps of Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Sunrise On The Reaping is also a prequel to the first Hunger Games, just not as far removed as its predecessor. The story specifically follows Haymitch Abernathy, who was played by Woody Harrelson in the original films, who went on to be the second ever victor out of District 12 at the 50th Hunger Games, many years before Katniss and Peeta would compete.
The daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, Maya Hawke has made quite a reputation for herself. Ironically, despite her presence in the film world, her most well-known role is that of Robin on Stranger Things, sticking around as a series regular since her season three introduction.
Within film itself, some of her work includes appearances in Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, Inside Out 2, Maestro, and Fear Street: 1994, among several others.
Screenrant notes that Hawke will be playing Wiress in Sunrise On The Reaping. Wiress was the champion of the 49th Hunger Games, and would later compete again in the 75th games as well, as depicted in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Hawke is not the first to play Wiress, as she was played by Amanda Plummer in Catching Fire.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping will hit theaters in 2026.
