Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes to Star in Netflix Movie ‘Strangers’ Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson

Stranger Things Maya Hawke and Riverdales Camila Mendes are teaming up to star in Netflix’s new dark comedy film Strangers, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Robinson’s directorial debut was 2019’s Someone Great, also Netflix original. Strangers was written by Robinson and Celeste Ballard. According to Deadline, the film is described as a “…subverted Hitchock-ian dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonists of all: teenage girls”. The film follows Drew and Eleanor who, after a secret meet up, decide to team up to go after each other’s bullies. What will this meet-up entail? The details of the film have not been released yet, and it also hasn’t been confirmed who Hawke and Mendes will respectively play.

Mendes’ credits include Palm Springs with Andy Samberg, as well as the Netflix film Dangerous Lies. She’s best known for her role as Veronica Lodge in Riverdale, and will continue her role in the fifth season, which premieres in January. Hawke was most seen in the Gia Coppola film Mainstream, and will return as Robin Buckley in season 4 of Stranger Things as well, which is currently in production.

Robinson is producing the film with Anthony Bregman and Peter Cron under their deal with Netflix. Strangers doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but it is expected to launch sometime in 2021.

Melissa Cusano: I love to escape reality with reading, writing, movies, and music! If I'm not working I love to go to concerts (pre-covid), play video games, and hang out with my dog Ozzi.
