Matthew Quick’s latest novel, Boy21 is set for an adaptation through the newly minted production company Catch & Release Films– co-founded by Foxcatcher executive producer Tom Heller as well as producer-director Frank Hall Green. The story follows two high school basketball players who overcome their own personal tragedies through their unique friendship.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “[Heller and Green] plan to acquire rights to and develop literary material, articles and life rights for adaptation, as well as filmmaker-driven screenplays, and package the projects from the ground up.”
Oscar-nominee Lasse Hallstrom has signed on to direct the feature. He is behind the critically acclaimed films Chocolat, The Cider House Rules, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, among others.
Besides Boy21 and the Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook, Quick has five more novels currently in the midst of adaptation. Sorta Like a Rockstar and The Good Luck of Right Now are in their early stages. The remaining three already have buzz-worthy directors: Sam Raimi (Spider-Man 3) for Love May Fail, Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent) for Every Exquisite Thing, and Channing Tatum in his directing debut for Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock.
