One of the newest Star Wars films, Starfighter, is preparing for takeoff. Matt Smith has just joined the still expanding cast of the project, reportedly as one of the story’s villains.
There’s very little known in terms of plot details when it comes to Starfighter. At this stage, all that’s been revealed is the fact that it will be taking place after the events of Rise Of Skywalker, being one of the first pieces of Star Wars media set after the Sequels. Ryan Gosling is already cast in a lead role, with Mia Goth cast as the main antagonist of the film.
Although most well known as the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who, Matt Smith has a plethora of credits to his name, especially in the realm of sci-fi and fantasy. He was the main villain in 2022’s Morbius, as well as sporting a supporting part in Terminator: Genesys. Most recently, he’s been headlining in HBO’s House Of The Dragon as Daemon Targaryen, starring alongside Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke. He’ll also be appearing in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing later this year.
Deadline was the first to break the exclusive news of Smith’s casting, but Hollywood Reporter noted that Lucasfilm did not comment on it.
