Mason Thames, known for playing the protagonist in both Black Phone films and Hiccup in the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, has signed on to play a role in the John Wick spin-off Caine. This spin-off film will center around Donnie Yen’s character, Caine, who was first introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4. This upcoming film will continue from the events seen in John Wick: Chapter 4.
In addition to Thames and Yen, the current cast announced so far includes Rina Sawayama (who will be reprising her role as Akira from John Wick: Chapter 4) and Dacre Montgomery.
Donnie Yen is set to star and direct the film. Yen’s direction is said to blend the action filmmaking style seen in the previous John Wick movies with the Hong Kong action style seen in movies like Ip Man, Flash Point, and Hero, in which Donnie Yen also starred. The film is written by Mattson Tomlin, who is also co-writing the upcoming The Batman Part II.
Producers on the film include Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who previously produced all the previous John Wick movies and the spin-off, Ballerina. Other producers include Chad Stahelski, who produced the previous 4 John Wick movies, and Keanu Reeves, who played the central character in all 4. John Saunders is also producing. Executive Producers include Donnie Yen and Courtney Brock.
Details about Caine, such as who Mason Thames will be playing in the film and a possible release date, are currently unknown. For now, the film is currently in production.
