While production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been paused for a week after Tom Holland’s injury, casting news has been announced. Marvin Jones III has been cast for the role of Tombstone, as reported by Deadline. Representatives from Marvel were unavailable for comment, and representatives from Sony declined to comment.
Jones joins the live-action project after voicing Tombstone in Sony’s animated Oscar-winning feature, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as well as the threequel Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is set to release in 2027.
Tombstone, aka Lonnie Lincoln, is one of New York City’s nastiest crime bosses and a recurring Spider-Man villain. Created by Gerry Conway and artist Alex Saviuk, the character is a gigantic African-American albino with filed teeth and practically indestructible skin. His first appearance was in Web of Spider-Man #36 in March 1998.
Production for Brand New Day resumes on September 29. The film is still on track to meet its release date of July 31, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillma 2026. n have been cast in undisclosed roles. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will reprise their roles as MJ and Ned Leeds, respectively. Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal will also reprise their Marvel roles as the Hulk and the Punisher.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the new spidey feature, with Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige producing. Brand New Day is the first live-action Spider-Man film since No Way Home, which went on to gross over $1.9 billion upon its release.
Best known for his role as Tobias Whale in The CW’s Black Lightning, based on characters from DC Comics, Jones has also recently been starring opposite Kerry
Washington in Joe Carnahan’s Shadow Force and Season 2 of Paramount’s Halo opposite Pablo Schreiber. His upcoming projects include opposite Emilia Clarke and Adria Arjona in Amazon’s Criminal and in Jonás Cuarón’s indie Gringo Champion.
