Marvel’s Silver Surfer to Get His Own Movie

According to reports from Hollywood Reporter, Twentieth Century Fox is going full steam ahead with their Marvel developments, despite the looming mega-merger with Disney. The Disney-Fox deal is worth $52.4 billion and was unveiled last December, but that isn’t slowing down production. In fact, just this February, Fox hired on Brian Michael Bendis to write an X-Men script for the near future.

“It does not affect this project in any way, shape or form is what I was told,” says Bendis of the impending merger. “At least at the moment, it’s certainly decisions over my pay-grade if it ends up doing so.”

Other progressions include Fox’s plans to go ahead with a Silver Surfer movie, developing treatment from Brian K. Vaughn, the mind behind Marvel’s Runaways. The Fantastic Four villain was last seen in Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) which proved to be underwhelming. The 2015 adaptation of the heroic foursome didn’t go much better. The Fox landscape has since switched gears, however, finding success in R-rated films such as Deadpool (2016) and Logan (2017). Perhaps, a Silver Surfer solo film could find prosperity from this new formula

In any case, the Disney merger isn’t slowing any one down at Twentieth Century Fox just yet. “We actually have way more in development and production in Marvel IP than at any point in the history of the studio,” says a Fox insider, according to Hollywood Reporter. “There’s been zero slowdown on that front given Disney.”

We’ll just have to wait and see.
