‘Batgirl’ May Have Delays Moving Forward

Although DC Films and Warner Brothers were leaning toward hiring a female director for Batgirl after writer-director Joss Whedon’s exit this past week, progress on the film has ground to a halt.

According the The Wrap, an insider said that Warner Brothers had always “intended to develop the core members of the Justice League — Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and possibly Green Lantern — before spinning off secondary characters like Nightwing, Deathstroke, Lobo and Batgirl.”

The studio has been challenged by several slow-downs including a US Department of Justice lawsuit against AT&T’s $85 billion bid to buy Warner Brothers’ parent company Time Warner. That same source said that if the merger does not go through, Time Warner properties will be broken up into individual entities and sold separately.

The false starts continue to plague Warner Bros. and their shaky superhero lineup with Flashpoint also experiencing complications this month. It will be a miracle if the studio can get another film through smoothly in the near future. We will have more updates as details are revealed.
