Marvel Studio President Discusses Possible Black Widow Film

Marvel Studio president, Kevin Feige, commented on further speculation about a possible movie for Natasha “Black Widow” Romanov in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. Feige has confirmed that Black Widow will play a larger role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and we know from the trailers that she will appear in the year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. On the possibility of solo film, Feige said to Total Film that, “The notion of exploring (her backstory) even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.”

The statement itself does not promise anything specific. Scarlett Johansson would, in all likelihood, reprise her role, but to say anything more is pure speculation. Marvel probably has multiple projects currently in development that it is considering and a Black Widow movie could just as easily be a short standalone similar to All Hail the King released on the Thor: The Dark World blu-ray. Still the possibility is significant: the Marvel films have thus far featured male superheroes with Black Widow as the token woman on the team. DC meanwhile plans to introduce Wonder Woman in Man of Steel 2 but still has not explained how she will feature into the story. Marvel has already laid out its film plans as far as Avengers 2 so any further news about a Black Widow movie will likely come after that releases in 2015.
