With Avengers: Doomsday having begun production, every actor tied to the project and even the MCU as a whole is examined under a magnifying glass by fans. The latest stars being eyed by fans are Sophia Di Martino and Chris Hemsworth.
Di Martino teased a potential appearance in Doomsday in a now-deleted Instagram story post. The post simply had a picture of Di Martino with the caption “playgrounds.” Additionally, there were reports that she and her stunt double, Sarah Irwin, were seen in the UK, where production for Doomsday is taking place. Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed Di Martino’s involvement in the film or any other cast members of the Loki series, aside from Tom Hiddleston.
There are notable expected castings for Doomsday, such as the cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts*, Black Panther, and other Marvel films. However, some expected castings have yet to be announced. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Oscar Issac’s Moon Knight, and Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel were missing from the cast reveal announcement made by Marvel Studios. It leaves room to wonder if Di Martino fits into this list.
Di Martino played Sylvie in the Disney+ series, Loki. She is on the run from the TVA and eventually meets Loki, and they search for “He Who Remains,” aka Kang the Conqueror. Since her appearance in Loki, she has not been mentioned in any other Marvel project.
Chris Hemsworth also got some eyes on him recently for his “Legacy of Thor” video. On Wednesday, Hemsworth uploaded a YouTube video, which currently has about 586,000 views, titled “Thank You! The Legacy of Thor.” In the caption, Hemsworth says, “Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I’ve held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me.”
He continued, “Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!” The video has a number of clips of Thor’s journey in the MCU.
This leaves fans confused about Thor’s future in the MCU. The post feels like a goodbye to the fans, leaving some to wonder if the strongest Avenger will die somehow in Doomsday. For now, all we can do is wonder. Avengers: Doomsday is set to release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
