Marvel Studios plans on rewriting and retitling the upcoming Avengers movie. This decision comes after Jonathan Majors’ conviction for assault and harassment.

Originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Marvel has since dropped Majors from his titular villain role due to allegations and indictments against him. Even so, there had been plans to reduce Kang’s role immensely after Quantumania failed to draw in any substantial box office or critical success. Whether or not his role will be reduced even more in the new screenplay remains to be seen.

After a several-month-long trial, Majors was found guilty of third-degree assault and one count of harassment. Despite being acquitted of another assault count and an aggravated harassment count, Majors’ career has spiraled downward, losing plenty of representation and career opportunities. Not only was he fired from Marvel, but his recent film Magazine Dreams was pulled from Disney’s release calendar, leaving its fate uncertain. Additionally, his management team, the Lede Company, dropped Majors, while the US Army pulled several TV advertisements the actor had participated in. He is also seemingly pulled from an adaptation of Walter Mosley’s The Man in My Basement.

The new Avengers film is slated for release on May 2026, with the franchise’s future up in the air.
