Disney recently confirmed that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will join Lucasfilm in developing a new Star Wars film. This news came just two days before reports broke about Kevin Feige’s continued involvement in producing another Spider-Man movie with Sony after weeks of negotiating a deal that many thought had little hope of being resolved.
In a statement released by Disney Studios co-chairman and CCO Alan Horn on the future of Lucasfilm, “We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars, but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together.”
Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy will start working with Feige on what’s next for the Star Wars franchise after the final film in the saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which is out on December 20. Although this deal is exciting for both Star Wars and Marvel fans, there is some worry about Feige over-extending himself, especially since one of th reasons Sony gave for Feige not signing onto Spider-Man 3 was due to Marvel Phase 4 taking up too much time. What Feige’s final involvement in Star Wars will be should unfold over the next couple years. Stay tuned.
