The film world has been buzzing amid the Oscar weekend as Marvel Studios released four new images from the upcoming Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Collider reports. The film is said to explore those mysterious portals which introduced all the trouble that played out in Marvel’s latest release Spider-Man: No Way Home. This sequel will be the first titular role for the character since his introductory film in 2016 and since Benedict Cumberbatch has portrayed him in a number of supporting appearances in other Marvel movies.
The images feature Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. But most excitingly, the fourth photo features Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, a new Marvel character that has yet to be featured in the cinematic universe.
Prior to her inclusion in the film, Chavez has already made history as Marvel’s first Latin American hero that is a member of the LGBTQ+ community when she was introduced in 2011, who you can read more about as explored further by Out. Fans are excited to see her brought to the silver screen and see how her sexuality plays out in what is hopefully going to be a respectable and realistic representation. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 6.
