At a press and fan event in Hollywood today, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced three new titles on the Marvel slate as well as the casting of their first superhero of color.
In addition to confirming release dates for previously announced Marvel titles, Feige delighted fans and press alike with the announcement of additional films based on the Marvel universe of superheroes. Chief among the announcements was the casting of Chadwick Boseman (Get on Up, 42) as the lead in Black Panther. Boseman’s character, T’Challa, is the leader of the fictional African country Wakanda. The character has been featured in the past as part of the Avengers team, but has also appeared solo in the comic books over the years. That film is slated for a November 3rd, 2017 release.
Also announced at the presentation was the studio’s first foray into a project with a female lead, Captain Marvel, set to premiere July 6th, 2018. Another film, The Inhumans, is set for release on November 2, 2018. The Inhumans are a group of alien beings with superpowers who have appeared in several Marvel titles, including Captain America and Fantastic Four.
