Mark Wahlberg Joins Peter Berg’s ‘Mile 22’

Mark Wahlberg in the 2001 'Planet of the Apes' Reboot

Frequent collaborators Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg will be taking to the big screen together again for the action film Mile 22, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pair previously worked together on Lone Survivor, and plan to once again on the oil spill thriller Deepwater Horizon, and The Six Billion Dollar Man remake.

Mile 22 will follow a CIA-agent (Wahlberg) who must transport a compromised informant in Indonesia to a getaway plane 22 miles away from the pickup point. On their journey, they meet with various dangerous and action-packed obstacles in the form of corrupt police, trigger happy civilians, and criminal overlords. Television writer Graham Roland (FringeLost) penned the script.

UFC fighter-turned-actress Ronda Rousey (Furious 7) and The Raid 2 star Iko Uwais will be Wahlberg’s cast mates. The film’s action will be utilizing these two actors’ hand-to-hand combat and martial arts expertise.

Wahlberg, Berg, and Stephen Levinson will all produce. Berg was not locked in to direct until recently, however, with Wahlberg signing onto the project, their working relationship makes Berg’s decision to direct a no-brainer.

In addition to his upcoming Berg collaborations, Wahlberg will next be seen in Daddy’s Home with Will Ferrell and is rumored to be starring in Patriot’s Day – based around the Boston Marathon bombing.
