Creep 2’s trailer promises another faux-documentary premise, more cringe-worthy awkwardness, and the return of Mark Duplass (The League) as the creep.
Made for a shoestring budget, 2014’s Creep flipped the found-footage horror film on its head. Rather than constantly attempting to startle the audience with cheap jump scares (yet also parodying said jump scares), Creep lingered on uncomfortable moments. It genuinely unsettled viewers, simultaneously making them wince and laugh out loud. In fact, Duplass’ performance remains one of his best: cold, calculating, and hilarious, like a subdued Christian Bale in American Psycho.
In Creep 2, Sara (Desiree Akhavan) documents the bizarre world of Craigslist personal ads, and in doing so, she stumbles upon Aaron (played by Duplass), who convinces her to film his life. In a nod to the original, the creep assumes the name Aaron after the first film’s protagonist. After a short while, he begins to do what he does best: be totally weird.
Patrick Brice once again directs. Brice and Duplass co-wrote both films, and have stated that they intend to make a third movie as well. Given that the films cost nearly nothing to make yet are infinitely entertaining, bring on the creeps!
Distributed by The Orchard and produced by Blumhouse, Creep 2 is set for an October 24th release.
