Contrary to earlier reports, she will not voice Commissioner Gordon, but instead will provide the voice of the mayor of Gotham City. Carey has been away from the big screen for the past couple years, last appearing in Lee Daniel’s The Butler back in 2013. Before that, she had a prominent role in Lee Daniel’s Precious, which garnered her critical acclaim for her performance as Ms. Weiss.
The Lego Batman Movie is a spin-off of the Batman character in The Lego Movie, which was a breakaway box office sensation early last year. Will Arnett will return to voice the Lego version of the Dark Knight. Ralph Fiennes (Alfred), Rosario Dawson (Batgirl), Micheal Cera (Robin) and Zack Galifianakis (Joker) have also joined the cast.
The animation supervisor of The Lego Movie, Chris McKay, has moved on up to the directors chair for this project. He will direct the script by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter). Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will produce the film. Lord and Miller wrote and directed The Lego Movie.
The Lego Batman Movie is slated to hit theatres on February 2017.
