At the Marvel panel this weekend during San Diego Comic Con, all kinds of announcements were made about upcoming characters and films, one of them being that actress Maria Bakalova will be featured in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as the voice of Cosmo the Spacedog.
Cosmo is a dog with telepathy abilities who was sent up into space as part of the Soviet Union’s space program. The Spacedog was first introduced to Marvel Comics in 2008 within the Nova comics.
The Bulgarian actress is best known for her work in the 2020 film Borat. Her performance in the film earned her Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress recognition from awards shows such as Critics’ Choice Awards, National Society of Film Critics, New York Film Critics Circle, and the Satellite Awards.
Bakalova tweeted her thanks to director James Gunn, noting that it was an ‘honor’ to work with the ‘extraordinary creator’. Gunn replied with the anecdote that Bakalova made it a habit to spend time on set even when she wasn’t scheduled to film that day because she was so enthusiastic about being apart of the project’s team.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is wrapped and scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2023.
