Like most of his projects, Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film Once Upon Time in Hollywood will possess an ensemble A-list cast. This will feel right at home with the film’s cultural tone, which Tarantino described as “a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood.” Despite this somewhat whimsical setting, Hollywood’s narrative is anything but, basing itself on the 1969 murder of Sharon Tate, then-wife of director Roman Polanski, by Charles Manson followers.
Now the first look at Tate’s character, played by actress Margot Robbie, have been revealed. Robbie recently posted an Instagram photo of her in some very 60’s clothing on the L.A. set, further highlighting Taratino’s devotion to recreating the styles of previous film eras. The film will also star Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as former Western star Rick Dalton and his stunt double Cliff Booth, both close acquaintances of Tate.
Alongside these three actors, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will also star Luke Perry, Dakota Fanning, Damian Lewis, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Al Pacino, Emile Hirsch, Timothy Olyphant, Kurt Russell and Burt Reynolds, just to name a few. According to Tarantino, the director has worked on this script for nearly five years and is “very excited to tell this story of an L.A. and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore.” The film will be released on July 26, 2019.
