We’re all familiar with the DeLorean- the iconic gull-winged 80’s car best known for doubling as a time machine in the Back to the Future franchise. But outside of terms like “flux capacitor” and “88 miles per hour,” the vehicle’s history isn’t as familiar to pop culture as its iconography. This history will soon be expanded upon thanks to Irish director Nick Hamm (The Journey), whose upcoming film Driven will close out the 2018 Venice International Film Festival.
Driven has been described as “a wickedly comedic look at bromance gone bad.” The film explores the rise of automobile mogul John DeLorean (Lee Pace) and his business, the DeLorean Motor Company, in the 1980s through the lens of his friendship with ex-con-turned-FBI-informant Jim Hoffman (Jason Sudeikis). The film will also cover the consequences of Hoffman’s previous dealings with FBI agent Benedict Tissa (Corey Stoll) and the infamous drug scandal that ruined DeLorean’s business reputation.
Driven will debut at the Venice Film Festival on September 8. The film’s screenplay was written by Colin Bateman, who previously collaborated with Hamm on the 2016 drama The Journey. Other original titles at the festival include the Coen Brothers’ The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma and Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born.
