It looks as though Jane won’t be letting Tarzan have all the fun – Margot Robbie has just booked new role in Warner Bros.’ high flying true story Queen of the Air, according the The Hollywood Reporter. Robbie will be playing famed trapeze artist Lillian Leitzel who was a star for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus during the early 20th century.
Based on the book by Dean N. Jensen and adapted by Cat Vasko, the film will look to chronicle her rise to fame and her tumultuous love affair with fellow trapeze star Alfredo Codona that led to a brief marriage and their eventual deaths. Leitzel was most known for an anatomy defying stunt that required her to dislocate her shoulder at every turn. She did this trick hundreds of times and even had rope grooves embedded in her wrists.
This will be Robbie’s third outing with Warner Bros. after the just-released Suicide Squad, The Legend of Tarzan, and last year’s Focus. Warner plans to take their relationship with Robbie even further, as they are reportedly developing a standalone film for Robbie’s Suicide Squad character Harley Quinn along with the other women in the DC Universe. Ever since her breakout in The Wolf of Wall Street, Robbie has been box office draw and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Next, she will be seen alongside Domhnall Gleeson in Goodbye Christopher Robin. She is also attached to the thriller Bad Monkeys and has been circling the Tonya Harding figure skating biopic.
