Margot Robbie has recently come forth on the overall tone of her upcoming film Birds Of Prey- “violent and absurd”- while providing a little tidbit of Harley Quinn’s status in the film. In an interview with Variety on her newest film Bombshell, conversation quickly moved to Birds of Prey as DC’s next big theatrical release.
Robbie mentioned that the film will go more in depth in the mind of Harley, stating “The story in Birds of Prey is told from [Harley’s] point of view, so you have an insight into Harley’s world in a way that you didn’t in the first Suicide Squad film, nor that you’ll have in the next Suicide Squad film,” Robbie said. Birds Of Prey revealed its first trailer during the previews for IT Chapter 2 and, as promised, the trailer seems to reflect the outlandish nature of its beloved anti-heroine character. Margot further added that “It’s a little bonkers, It reflects her personality. It’s heightened. It’s poppy, it’s fun, it’s violent, it’s crazy. It’s absurd. It’s kooky. It’s hilarious. It’s a little heartbreaking.”
Although Suicide Squad didn’t meet critical expectations, Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn was received well by most. The upcoming soft reboot sequel should garner more attention the second time around, especially now that James Gunn is attached to direct. Birds Of Prey looks to keep DC on top now that Joker has finally crossed the $1 billion mark, and it sure doesn’t hurt that Margot will play alongside Ewan McGregor as Batman villain Black Mask. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will release in theaters February 7th, 2020.
