After announcing the film Man of Tomorrow yesterday with David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult returning as Superman and Lex Luther respectively, James Gunn has now clarified that the film is not “Superman 2.” James Gunn is quite active on social media, primarily on Instagram Threads, and he often responds to fans inquiring about the future of the DC film universe. He had previously alluded to a film he was working on that was expressly not “Superman 2”, but Superman would play a major role in. As it turns out, Man of Tomorrow is that film and not “Superman 2.”

Despite “Man of Tomorrow” being yet another name for Superman, the film will not be a direct follow-up to the film that released earlier this year. Based on the commissioned artwork by Jim Lee and the fact that specifically David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult posted the announcement, Man of Tomorrow may feature Lex and Superman teaming up in some capacity to stop a greater threat. However, it is not quite clear is Superman will be the true lead of the film or not. The film is currently slated for release on July 9th, 2027.

Fans will not have to wait quite that long to see David Corenswet as Superman again, as he is expected to appear in a supporting capacity for Supergirl next year. The film, which stars Milly Alcock as Supergirl and Jason Momoa as Lobo, hits theaters on June 26th, 2026. As for other projects in the DCU, Peacemaker Season 2 is currently airing on HBO Max, and the body horror film Clayface is currently filming and is stet to release on September 11th, 2026.
