Last week rumor had it that Mad Max: Fury Road‘s George Miller was in talks to direct Man of Steel sequel, but now it appears that may not be the case. Man of Steel 2 has apparently been pushed to the back burner in the DC Universe, indefinitely, according to rumors being reported by Den of Geek.
Miller was reportedly in talks to take over the Man of Steel franchise from Zack Snyder, but that may not be happening any time soon. In fact, the project Warner Bros. is having discussions about with Miller may be an altogether different property.
The DC Universe is growing at a rapid pace, but considering that at the current moment there is only one film in the DC Comics Universe (Man of Steel), it is still in an infant state. Warner Bros. is working hard and quickly to change that with a slew of projects that may be the catalyst for the snail’s pace development to a sequel of Man of Steel.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit cinemas next March, soon followed by Suicide Squad in August. Wonder Woman will open some time in 2017 along with the first part of two-part Justice League movie. 2018 will bring forth the conclusion to the Justice League event as well as the standalone film for Aquaman. That’s six big projects slated to be released in the next three years and it doesn’t it even include the reported Ben Affleck-directed Batman trilogy that is in the works. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of room left for Superman.
Only time will tell if a new Superman movie does end up getting made, but at this point, we wouldn’t hold our breath. The good news is Superman will still be featured heavily as the DC Universe grows.
