The list is in and all the latest animated films from this last year are vying for the top price of Best Picture. The top film to receive the most nominations is the latest Disney Pixar film Coco, which received thirteen including best animated feature, directing, effects and production and music. The other film to receive the most nominations next to Coco is the animated feature, Breadwinner, which received a total of ten, including best independent animated feature, character design, directing, and music.
Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, the short that can be seen before the film Coco, also received a nomination for best animated special project. This has come despite all the backlash that came up against the length of the short that led to a theater’s decision to pull it from the opening of the Pixar film, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
Netflix’s original series, Troll Hunters, also did well in the nominations, earning multiple noms for more than one episode. Other films to include more than one nomination include Boss Baby with six nominations, while Captain Underpants, Lego Batman, Loving Vincent, The Big Bad Fox and Despicable Me 3 all took three nominations.
The 45th Annual Annie Awards will take place Saturday, Feb 3, 2018 at the UCLA Royce Hall at 7 PM PST in Los Angeles, California and is a key to determining the upcoming Oscar animation categories.
