Maia Kealoha Cast As Lilo For The Upcoming ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Live-Action Film

It was announced that the upcoming Lilo & Stitch film has finally cast an actress for the role of Lilo.  Maia Kealoha is the name of the young actress that will take the position in the live-action movie directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp (Marcel The Shell with Shoes On). Kealoha has not starred in a film before, and this role would mark her career start.

Lilo & Stitch is originally an animated film that was released in 2002. The story is set in Hawaii and follows a young lonely girl named Lilo who befriends an Alien, Stitch, who just arrived on earth by mistake. Lilo thinks Stitch is a dog, but he is an alien experiment meant to destroy everything. With time both become family.

The live-action film will remain truthful to the original, set in Hawaii. Kealoha is Hawaii-born and has participated in beauty pageants. She is featured on the Little Miss Kona Coffee Instagram account, where many congratulations comments were dropped with the casting announcement.

It is known that actor Zach Galifianakis was cast for a role in the film. However, it is unknown yet what his character is. The live-action script was written by Chris Kekaniokalani from a previous draft by Mike Van Waes.

This new Live-action film follows several similar works by Disney that have been updating their classics in recent years, including The Lion King, Mulan, Aladdin, The Jungle Book, and The Beauty and the Beast, among others,

Lilo & Stitch will start production soon. A release date has not been announced yet.
