We have known for months that Warner had chosen Mads Mikkelsen as the new Gellert Grindelwald, after asking Johnny Depp to leave the Fantastic Beasts saga. The latter’s convulsive public image, tarnished by his divorce from Amber Heard and the subsequent polarization in social media, led the studio to let him go in favor of the Danish actor, who will make his debut as the villain in the upcoming installment: The Secrets of Dumbledore. When we got the first trailer earlier this week, however, Mikkelsen’s appearance was much talked about, and not always in positive terms.
There were fans who thought that the Another Round actor barely had any characterization, leading to a confrontation between two sides that, naturally, ended up affecting the actor himself. The controversy was so bitter that (perhaps influenced by posts from Depp’s fans), Mikkelsen opted to shut down his Instagram account after his Fantastic Beasts posts attracted unwanted attention. However, a few hours after his profile was closed, Mikkelsen reactivated it, and posted a picture of him after workout.
“Sorry for not being around the last couple of days, been working hard to get my Instagram up and running again.” The actor made no reference to what exactly led him to close it in the first place, discarding the possibility that the social network itself closed the account. Be that as it may, Mikkelsen is back in full swing, and has found crowds of users rejoicing at his return while praising his physical form.
The actor seems very happy to have joined Fantastic Beasts, and we will be able to see him in action when the film opens on April 15, 2022.
