Madonna Biopic Script Picked Up at Universal Studios

UPDATED 4/25/17 – Madonna has weighed in on the upcoming biopic Blonde Ambition, taking to Instagram to write: “Nobody knows I know and what I have seen. Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool. Looking for instant gratification without doing the work. This is a disease in our society.”

Universal Studios has recently picked up writer Elyse Hollander’s 2016 blacklisted Madonna biopic script, Blond Ambition.

Set in early 1980’s New York City, Blond Ambition will follow the life of Madonna Louise Ciccone, famously known by just her first name, as she deals with love, the stresses of show business, and the production of her first album, 1983’s Madonna. In 1978, Madonna moved from her Michigan home to New York City to pursue a dance career, but later switched to becoming a singer/songwriter of dance singles. After achieving minor success, she began work on Madonna, which yielded hits such as “Holiday”, “Borderline”, and “Lucky Star”.

Blond Ambition is the debut feature script from Elyse Hollander, who had previously worked as an assistant to The Revenant director Alejandro G. Inarritu during the production of the Oscar winning Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), and executive producer Kourtney Kang (ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat).

Fifty Shades of Grey producer Michael De Luca is attached to produce along with RatPac Entertainment and Bellevue Productions’ John Zaozirny.

Austin Allison: Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, I have been obsessed with cartoons, animation, and film in general for as long as I've known how to talk and draw. From Disney animation to indie movies, filmmaking was always the purest form of art to me. I majored in Film and Television Studies and minored in Studio Art at the University of Arizona. The greatest aspect of studying film was developing a creative and critical eye for a medium that I had loved for so long, but couldn't explain why I loved it until now.
