‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and ‘Carol’ Win Big with Australian Academy’s International Awards

It certainly helped to have a little Aussie blood for the winners of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards, which were handed out in Los Angeles on Friday evening. George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road led the way with the two big wins of the night- winning for Best Film and Miller taking home the prize for Best Director. Fury Road previously take home the top prizes at the domestic awards ceremony that took place in Australia late last year; it marks the first film to took both international and domestic top prizes.

Todd Haynes’ lush romantic period drama Carol also scored with two wins of the evening for actors Cate Blanchett (an Aussie herself) and Rooney Mara. Check out the full list of winners below:

  • BEST SCREENPLAY: Spotlight– Josh Singer, Tom McCarthy
