ACE Eddie Award Winners

Winners were announced Friday night for the ACE Eddie Awards, presented annually by members of American Cinema Editors guild. Saluting the years’ finest achievement in film editing, the ACE Eddies (this year celebrating their 66th year) split their film categories between drama and comedy with four of the five films competing for the corresponding Oscar (The Big ShortMad Max: Fury RoadThe RevenantStar Wars: The Force Awakens). And the films acknowledged for their cutting prowess were Mad Max: Fury Road and The Big Short.

With its recent Producers Guild Award win, The Big Short must be seen as major threat to take home the Oscar for Best Picture. The Screen Actors Guild Awards will be handed out on Saturday, shedding further light as we start to bring this years’ awards season to a close. The Best Film Editing Academy Award is largely considered predictive of what may win the Best Picture prize, which places particularly emphasis on the ACE Eddie selection as it may bring a clue to what films are particularly favored within the industry.
