Night Shyamalan continues to stay busy this year. Not only has he worked as a producer on his daughter’s film The Watchers, but he is also working on his latest project titled Trap.
According to Variety, Trap focuses on a father and daughter attending a concert of a pop star. However, it is later revealed that it is a trap for the father, as he is a wanted serial killer known as The Butcher, and the concert was held just to capture him.
Josh Hartnett (Oppenheimer and Die Hart) will play The Butcher. It has also been revealed that Marnie McPhail (The Way Home) will play the killer’s wife and that Hayley Mills (The Parent Trap) plays a character named Dr. Grant. However, neither actress was part of the trailer.
Shyamalan is also working with another one of his daughters on his film. Saleka Shyamalan, an American singer-songwriter, will be playing the pop star of the concert, Lady Raven.
This is the first time in a long time that M. Night Shyamalan has released a film he wrote and directed a year apart from one another, as he is coming off his release of Knock at the Cabin. The last time this happened was in 2015-2016 with the film The Visit and the widely successful feature Split starring James McAvoy.
Trap will trap audiences in theaters on August 9.
