Kathleen Kennedy has been associated with Lucasfilm since 2012, originally beginning as a co-chair alongside the original Star Wars creator, George Lucas. Following Lucasfilm’s four billion dollar deal with Disney in 2012, Kennedy became president of Lucasfilm, replacing Lucas. She has been credited with the Disney based revival of Star Wars with its sequel trilogy starting with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Her credits also include: Rogue One, Andor, The Mandalorian, and Solo: a Star Wars Story.
Beginning the Star Wars sequel trilogy in 2015, Star Wars: The Force Awakens still holds the record for the highest grossing film in domestic box office history at $936 million dollars (grossing over two billion dollars globally), and the final film of the sequel trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, grossed over one billion dollars globally in 2019. However, Solo: a Star Wars Story became the only Star Wars movie to ever lose money in Lucasfilm history.
Kennedy is expected to step down from Lucasfilm at the end of the 2025. A source claims that Kennedy expects to finish out her contract during 2025 before retiring. However, a separate source, close to Kennedy, has debunked this claim stating that nothing is certain of Kennedy’s plans yet.
Lucasfilm’s next picture to arrive in theaters is titled, The Mandalorian and Grogu. It’s release date is expected sometime during 2026. In other news, X-Men director, Simon Kinberg is reportedly developing a new Star Wars trilogy that is currently being kept under wraps.
