Luca Guadagnino, the director of Call Me By Your Name and the 2019 Suspiria remake, is back with another film titled Bones and All with Timothée Chalamet set to star. Taylor Russell, Chloe Sevigny and Mark Rylance are also on board.
The film follows Maren Yearly, who sets out on a cross-country trip with a disenfranchised drifter searching for her estranged father in an attempt to understand her abnormal urges to kill and eat the people that love her. The film will mark the second collaboration between Guadagnino and Chalamet, who worked together on Call Me By Your Name. The film is also written by one of Guadagnino’s frequent collaborators David Kajganich, who worked with the director on his films A Bigger Splash and Suspiria. Bones and All also stars André Holland, Jessica Harper, Michael Stuhlbarg, David Gordon-Green and Francesca Scorsese.
It was recently revealed in an interview with Deadline that Guadagnino is no longer planning on making sequel to Call Me By Your Name. The original film starred Chalamet alongside Armie Hammer, who, after receiving allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, was dropped by his agency and exited multiple upcoming projects he was slated to star in. It’s unclear if Guadagnino’s decision to nix the Call Me By Your Name sequel had something to do with Hammer, but the director didn’t mention the actor when discussing that he had shifted focus to other projects.
“The truth of the matter is, my heart is still there,” Guadagnino said in the intervview. “But I’m working on this movie now, and I’m hopefully going to do Scarface soon, and I have many projects and so will focus on this side of the Atlantic and the movies I want to make.”
Sales on Guadagnino’s new film are being handled by The Apartment Pictures, Frenesy Film, Memo and 3 Marys. We don’t know when we’ll see the project, but considering the film’s premise and Guadagnino and Chalamet’s track records, it’s safe to assume that a strange and interesting film is on the way.
