Long Awaited Reboot of ‘Valley Girl’ Now Has a Release Date

The long awaited remake to 80’s cult classic Valley Girl now has an official release date, much to the excitement of fans everywhere. The original movie, based off the archetypes of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, was a box office hit, grossing 17 million dollars on a minuscule 350,000 dollar budget.

Directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg (A Deadly Adoption), the film will take a new spin on the classic tale, adding in musical elements. The project was originally announced back in 2016, with Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) attached to star. While she still remained involved with Valley Girl, production ran into trouble with its 2018 release date being pushed, mainly due to cast member Logan Paul’s numerous controversies.

The film’s official synopsis reads as a ‘musical adaptation of the classic 1983 hit film that changed American teenage life forever, set to a rock ‘n roll ’80s soundtrack. Julie (Jessica Rothe) is the ultimate ’80s Valley Girl. That is, until she falls hard for Randy (Josh Whitehouse), a Sunset Strip punk rocker, who challenges everything Julie stands for. Despite push-back from friends and family, Julie must break out of the safety of her world to follow her heart and discover what it really means to be a Valley Girl.’

Along with Rothe and Whitehouse, the film stars Chloe Bennet, Mae Whitman, Ashleigh Murray, Jessie Ennis, Rob Huebel and Judy Greer. Alicia Silverstone also stars as a grown up version of Julie narrating the story. This reboot definitely has exciting elements and looks to satisfy fans of the original, all while reaching a new audience. Valley Girl is expected to be released May 8th on VOD.
