What’s black-and-white and red all over?
After its box office domination and critical accolades earlier this year, 20th Century Fox and director James Mangold have announced that the R-rated Logan will see a one night theatrical re-release on May 16th with a new black-and-white version ahead of the film’s arrival on Blu-ray.
Mangold told fans on Twitter, “Suggestion. Hard core B&W loving Logan fans should not make any plans on the evening of May 16th.” The director later explained that the new edit will only be in domestic theaters and that, “to make a great B&W version of a film, the whole thing’s gotta be regraded & timed shot by shot.”

The idea to re-edit the film in black-and-white came after Mangold posted monochrome set photos on social media before the film’s release, which got a strong positive fan reaction. In an interview with Deadline Hollywood, Mangold said, “It caused such an extreme reaction, and so much appreciation for these pictures, and then people immediately were wondering if the film itself was going to be in black and white, and so we are giving it a whirl.”
Logan‘s Blu-ray and DVD, which will include the monochrome version, will hit stores on May 23rd.
