Logan Lerman (Noah) is in talks to play young Dan Rather, a staple in the news industry, in the David Gordon Green-directed drama Newsflash, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rather joined CBS in 1962 and was the chief of the station’s Southern bureau in New Orleans at the time. He was also Walter Cronkite’s fellow employee and eventual successor.
Written by Ben Jacoby (The First Omen), the film retells new stations’ coverage in the wake of John F. Kennedy’s tragic assassination all the way back in 1963. It will highlight the environment perpetuated by newscasters as they all worked against one another to first bring the real truth to the table. In an extremely interesting casting choice, the feature will also star Seth Rogen (The Disaster Artist) as iconic newscaster Walter Cronkite.
Production is expected to begin next spring. Though that’s a while off, Lerman’s fans will still have new content of his to view during the wait. In the future, Lerman will be voicing a character in the animated film Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero about a dog in the military who really existed and achieved immense honors. He will also be seen very soon alongside Elle Fanning (The Beguiled) in The Vanishing of Sidney Hall, which will enter theaters on March 2, 2018.
