According to Variety, Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex) will star opposite Michael Peña (Collateral Beauty) in the sci-fi thriller Extinction, from Universal and Good Universe. Ben Young (Hounds of Love) will helm from a screenplay by Eric Heisserer (Arrival), Spenser Cohen and Bradley Caleb Kane. The story centers on a man (Peña) with a recurring nightmare that he will lose his family. The planet is then invaded by a violently destructive force, and he discovers his own strength in fighting to save his family. Caplan will play his wife.
Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman of Mandeville (Beauty and the Beast) and Anna Halberg will produce. Mandeville’s Alexander Young, Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake of Good Universe will executive produce.
Caplan was Emmy-nominated for her starring role opposite Michael Sheen (Passengers) in Showtime’s acclaimed dramatic series Masters of Sex. She recently appeared in Robert Zemeckis’ Allied which starred Academy Award-nominated actor Brad Pitt (The Big Short) and Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard (Assassin’s Creed), and in Jon M. Chu’s Now You See Me 2. She is set to star in the drama Friend of Bill, as a woman dealing with alcoholism.
