The live-action Lilo & Stitch is using its marketing campaign to continue the legacy of the original. The film released a new teaser that pays homage to the marketing from the original film’s campaign and combines it with another iconic Disney film. Stitch is seen being carried the same way that Simba gets carried in The Lion King. However, this time, it’s a mashup of the prequel Mufasa: The Lion King instead of Simba’s story. Years later, Stitch is still disrupting order as the parody teaser comes more than 20 years after previews for the original Lilo & Stitch featured the character visiting the worlds of other Disney classics.
Lilo & Stitch follows Lilo, played by Maia Kealoha, who lives with her older sister Nani, played by Sydney Agudong. Lilo adores her sister but still feels lonely often. When Stitch, an alien fugitive with nowhere to hide, enters Lilo’s life, he becomes her pet, and they become best friends. With the United Galactic Federation members hot on Stich’s trail, it’s up to Lilo and Nani to protect him.
Disney has cast some new and upcoming stars, but some familiar names have joined the film as well. Chris Sanders is returning as Stitch, as he voiced the character in the original films. Zach Galifianakis will voice Doctor Jumba Jookiba — in the original animated feature; he was played by David Ogden Stears. Billy Magnussen will voice Agent Pleakley, an expert in Earth’s culture and nature and supervisor of the doctor.
Disney has a few more live-action films set to release and in development. A new Snow White starring Rachel Zegler will premiere in theaters on March 21. Additionally, a live-action Moana, staring a new Moana alongside Dwayne Johnson returning as Maui, is set to release July 10, 2026. A live-action Tangled film has also recently been announced as in development with Michael Gracey directing.
