Lionsgate has released the official trailer for I Can Only Imagine 2, starring John Michael Finley, Milo Ventimiglia, and Dennis Quaid. The biographical drama serves as a follow-up to the 2018 film, I Can Only Imagine, about Christian band, MercyMe’s chart-topping song of the same name.
The massively successful song explores the complicated relationship between the lead singer, Bart Millard (Finley) and his abusive father (Quaid). Originally featured on MercyMe’s independent album, The Worship Project, the track was re-recorded in 2001 under a major label and went on to achieve double platinum certification. The first film was a box office hit, opening as the third-biggest movie of its weekend behind Black Panther and Tomb Raider. It earned more than $83 million worldwide.
In the new trailer, the band faces the challenges of life after fame. One member asks, “Are we still headliner material?” as newcomer Tim (Ventimiglia) brings messages of gratitude and grief. Millard is seen drawing on the strength and faith of the people around him, especially his son, Sam (Sammy Dell) to find a path forward.
The film is written by Brent McCorkle who co-directs with Andrew Erwin. Kevin Downes, Andrew Erwin, Cindy Bond, Bart Millard, Daryl Lefever, Joshua Walsh serve as producers.
I Can Only Imagine 2 is scheduled for a theatrical release date of February 20, 2026.
