In the horror renaissance that has gripped both arthouses and cineplexes across the United States, film adaptations of novels are more than their fair share of the market thanks to Stephen King’s fantastically formulaic writing style. However, studios are looking to go back to the well and draw blood once more, with the man who penned the novel Rambo: First Blood which puts some cinematic cement in place to bolster the credibility of author David Morrell.
As of now, Lionsgate is partnering with Suretone Pictures to adapt Morells horror-adventure novel Creepers into an feature film. The director has been chosen to be Marc Klasfeld, a seasoned music video and commercial director making his feature film debut.
“I have waited decades to find the right feature film project to which I could truly dedicate myself. The passion I have found to make Creepers all it can be is extraordinary, and I honestly can’t wait for the world to see what we have in store,” Klasfield said in a statement.
Creepers portrays a group of faux post-industrial youths who plan to investigate an isolated and desolated hotel only to encounter danger at every corner from a rival group of hostile urban explorers seeking hidden treasure, only for an Lovecraftian horror to wreak even more havoc.
The film is presently sorting out the casting of the film, ahead of the date of July 25th production date. Shooting is to take place over the summer in Bulgaria, which is sure to add an homage or two to the film Stalker.
