On Saturday night, the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) held their 31st annual awards ceremony celebrating the year’s finest achievement in the craft of cinematography. In a twist, it was Lion, the tender family drama from The Weinstein Company, that took home the top prize. Lion‘s director of photography – Greig Fraser (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Zero Dark Thirty) – won out over awards juggernaut La La Land, as well as Moonlight, Silence and Arrival.
