Lily James Set To Star In Crime Film ‘Peggy Jo’

Lily James is gearing up for a heist in the upcoming biographical crime film Peggy Jo, portraying a bank robber who committed crimes disguised as a man,

Directed by Salt’s Phillip Noyce and loosely based on a true story surrounding the titular character, the producers describe Peggy Jo as a ‘Bonnie but without the Clyde’ project and will be adapted to the silver screen by Appaloosa writer Robert Knott. The film will commence production in an undisclosed region of the southern U.S. Simon Brooks of Canyon Creek Films will be producing with HanWay Films acquiring its international sales rights. HanWay will present the film for purchase at the nearing Cannes Virtual Market.

James recently made an appearance in The Beatles-influenced film Yesterday and is set to appear in Ben Wheatley’s adaptation of Rebecca on Netflix. Simon Brooks stated, “I have been looking to make a movie with Phillip Noyce for years and Peggy Jo is finally the one. It is a great emotive and thrilling story that will capture audiences worldwide.”

Gabrielle Stewart of HanWay Films included in a press meeting, “Peggy Jo is all about wanting more than your life presents to you and celebrates with a wink and a nod, many of our favourite films from the 70s through to the 80s, in tone, fun, music, colour and pure escapist entertainment, with a whole load of heart.”
